Birra Moretti “La Rossa” Review
Got this beauty from Total Wine & More. “La Rossa” is a doppelbock made by Birra Moretti, an Italian brewery. So here’s my take on this German beer made by Italians: Poured from an 11.2oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Pours with two finger’s worth of thick, off-white foam that refuses to die. Dark amber/red in color. Plethora of bubbles. Moderate lacing. This is one of the most beautiful beers I have ever seen. {:’-D Has mild aromas of figs, smoke, and sour yeast with a hint of alcohol (sounds terrible, but it’s a mediocre smell at worst). Initial taste is of mild smoke flavors immediately followed by slightly stronger fig and cherry flavors that overtake and cancel out the smokey flavors. Mild caramel malt flavors along with a hint of alcohol enter behind the fig and cherry flavors as the latter persist in their taste strength (I’m glad that the yeast aromas that were detected by my nose weren’t detected as flavors by my tongue because that would of been chaos). Full bodied, amazingly creamy, mild carbonation with a disappointingly dry finish. I am tempted to say that this was an amazing doppelbock, but that’s just because the beer looked so sexy in that glass. Truth is, it was just a good beer, nothing amazing.
OVERALL SCORE: 3.66 out of 5.
