Sierra Nevada Brewing co Kellerweis heferweizen beer review by beer_reviewer

Good Saturday morning! I’m bringing y’all another review that I hope y’all enjoy! Picked this single up from Total Wine & More.

Name: Kellerweis Hefeweizen
Brewery: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co., California
Style: Hefeweizen
Alcohol: 4.8%

Poured 2/3 of a 12oz bottle (bottled 07Aug14) into a weizen glass and swirled the beer around inside the glass. The remaining 1/3 was poured into the glass, per instructions on bottle (seriously, these were weird pouring instructions. You know how difficult it is to swirl a beer inside a weizen glass?! IT DON’T WORK!!!) Excuse me, I got carried away. Anyways…

LOOK: Pours with a finger’s worth of white foam that halves within 20 seconds. Dull yellow in color with a remarkable amount of cloudiness. Only when held to the light, can I see that there is a moderate amount of rising bubbles. Lacing is practically absent.

SMELL: Has mild aromas of lemon, wheat, and that infamously sweet hefeweizen yeast along with subtle banana and clove aromas.

TASTE: Initial taste is of strong clove, banana, and sweet yeast flavors. Strong wheat along with mild lemon flavors enter immediately after as all initial flavors rapidly fade to mild. About 2 seconds pass as wheat flavors become mild and all other flavors drop to subtle. This results in a tasty, but weak final taste.

FEEL: Medium-bodied, moderately carbonated but goes down relatively smooth. The finish is nice and crisp.

NOTE: An outstanding beer. Just the strength of the flavors are lacking.

OVERALL RATING: 4.04 out of 5.
