Dovetail by Barrell Craft Spirits Whiskey Review

Kicking off the list at #10 is the Barrell Dovetail. I got the chance to try this at the USA Whiskey show this year by @thewhiskylist and absolutely loved the uniqueness and complexity so had to grab a bottle.

Nose: A complex bouquet bursting with fruits and raisins, balanced with aromatic spices, clove, nougat and butter cream cupcakes.

Palate: A thick creamy mouthfeel with dark chocolate praline, rich molasses, barrel char and a touch of candied orange whisks its way into a very enjoyable drink

Finish: Pepper and spice up front followed by a long and lingering sweetness of crisp sugar and fruits on a background note of oak.

Verdict: When you read the label and the use of blending rum, port and Cabernet wine casks for a bourbon every fibre in me says “this shouldn’t work” but I’ll be damned because it works and it works well.

Bravo Barrell, the Dovetail is a big, complex and bold beast and well worth a buy.
