Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu “Spaten” Review
Good morning, everyone! Today we will be taking a look at “Spaten Premium Lager.” This is a Munich Helles Lager from Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu in Germany. I picked up this single at Total Wine & More. Let’s proceed to the review: Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Pours with two fingers worth of white foam that dissipates into a half fingers worth within two minutes. Straw yellow in color. Plethora of bubbles with moderate lacing. Has mild aromas of spicy, bitter, and floral hops that combine with mild, buttered bread malt aromas and a hint of smoke. Initial taste is a rapid succession of hop flavors: Mild spicy hops followed by mild bitter hops preceded by slightly stronger floral hops. And that’s just act one!! Up next comes the delicious, mild buttered bread malts. All flavors persist except for floral hops, which grow a little stronger. A hint of smokey flavor manages to sneak in to the aftertaste. Medium bodied, too carbonated (almost burns the tongue, but not quite), with a crisp finish.
OVERALL RATING: 3.75 out of 5.
