Troon Brewing “Hopping the Mainframe” Review
It’s safe to say that this is one of the most highly anticipated OH collabs of the year, especially with it presenting the best opportunity for many to finally try some Troon. Well, does it live up to the hype?
Upon immediately cracking open the can, my nose is suffused with a beautiful hop aroma. So far, so good. It pours into the glass an opaque straw yellow, typical of Troon’s hoppy ales. The flavor follows the aroma, with Nelson leading the hoppy juiciness throughout, and the body is thick and creamy thanks to the heavily oated base. My only complaint is that it drinks a touch bit too sweet for me, an issue I find in many 10%+/triples, but the booziness is well-masked for the most part.
Overall a fantastic hoppy beer and this definitely tops Doom Showers for me, but to answer the originally posed question – living up to the hype is a tall order, and personally I favored some of the Taterversary collabs over this. Still a great beer nevertheless. Cheers! 🍻
