Flensburger Brewery “Flensburger Gold” Review
30Jun15: Yet another capture from Total Wine & More (gotta love that place). “Flensburger Gold” is a dortmunder from Germany with 4.8% alcohol. Official review commencing in 3… 2… 1… Poured from an 11.2oz bottle (best by date 11Aug15) into a pilsner glass. Pours with a finger and half’s worth of white foam that dissipates to a quarter’s worth within two minutes (another beer with a beautiful dissipation rate). Plenty of bubbles supporting that last of the foam head. Gold in color with barely any lacing. Has strong biscuity malt aromas (absolutely love them) that combine well with mild and sweet pilsner malt aromas and a hint of bitter hops. Initial taste is of mild boiled cabbage flavors (that just suddenly appear) that thankfully get immediately overpowered by mild biscuity malt and pilsner malt flavors. Biscuity malt flavors persist as pilsner malt flavors transform rather quickly into white rice malty goodness. All the while, a hint of hop bitterness manages to sneak in towards the end. Medium bodied, smooth, subtle carbonation, with an incredibly crisp, but dry finish. This is the first dortmunder I have tried and if this is considered good, I can’t wait to try others.
OVERALL RATING: 3.75 out of 5.
