Dogfish Head Brewery “Festina Péche” Review
Another day of Shark Week and another review of a Dogfish Head beer! I picked up this Berliner Weissbier as a single from the local HEB (the first time I have tried this style, so I was pretty excited). “Festina Péche” contains 4.5% alcohol. Now on to my official review: Poured from a 12oz bottle (bottled on 20Apr15) into a pint glass. Pours with a finger’s worth of white foam that dissipates into a quarter of a finger’s worth within 30 seconds. A very pale, straw yellow (looks like lemonade). Somewhat murky with hardly any bubbles and moderate lacing. Has strong aromas of wheat malts and sour malts with the slightest hint of peach. Initial taste is of very strong sour malt flavors that combine with strong wheat malt flavors. That peach that was barely detected by the nose sneak into the palate about 2 seconds after the initial flavors. The sour malt flavors quickly fade as wheat malts persist resulting in a slightly sour peach and strong wheat aftertaste. Incredibly light- bodied (almost watery), mildly carbonated, with a sourness that agitates the tongue (that is, for those 2 seconds that the sour flavors are strong). Not a very complex arrangements of flavors, but this brew was still another great one from DFH. This rating suffered so much do to it’s mediocre appearance and it’s below average mouthfeel.
OVERALL RATING: 3.7 out of 5.
