Fidens Brewing x Troon Brewing “Alex’s Axe” Review
When two inimitable forces in the industry come together, the hype is bound to be astronomical.
Rather than delve into a detailed critique and comparison against both of these prolific brewers’ portfolios of excellent hop-focused brews, I am content to simply appreciate that they made this happen.
On to the beer – right off the bat, the gorgeous color and dense haze conform to the characteristics of a “hoppy ale”. Nelson dominates the aroma with its wondrous white wine grape notes – quintessentially demonstrating Fidens’ mastery of this NZ hop. I taste ripe mango chunks, sweet pineapple, juicy stone fruit, citrus and other indistinct sweet tropical fruit flavors. As with all Fidens’ triples, booziness is impressively restrained, but the thick, dense body makes this conducive to sipping and allowing the lupulin to slowly coat the tongue.
